One Year Into Surf Skating

One Year Into Surf Skating

Time passes quickly if you are getting older. For me the first year into surf skating passed by so quickly and I wanted to use this anniversary to share a bit of a retrospektive of my journey. When I first heard about surf skating I was totally stoked. Coming from windsurfing, I was looking for a board related sport to enjoy in some quick sessions without the need to travel anywhere. The idea of surf skating was fascinating and amazed me a lot and so I ordered my first skate. And many more boards followed since than.

Getting Confident

After a while and some bad falls, I got quite confident on flat surfaces and took my boarding to the next level. There was this neat pumptrack near by. The first attempts were tiresome but it got better and better with every session. Since the pumptrack is just 5 minutes drive away I could have up to 2 or 3 quick sessions a week. Half an our on the track is a pretty nice time frame once you mastered the technique. Not much time, but well spend. I mostly ride the track in the early morning before the youngsters join in. Having this amazing place for myself is pure magic. It really lifts all sorrows and stress from the week.

But riding the pumptrack is not just additional fun. It also gave my flat skating a real boost. The amount of balance you learn from riding the pumptrack is amazing. I can highly recommend it to anyone who has a track around. If you are located in Germany, check out pumptrack.de and search for a park nearby.

Gearing Up

So what is my favorite gear after one year? Hence I tested a lot. I am pretty much down with Carver these days. I love the Proteus, it’s a perfect ride and with the current tuning I enjoy it a lot. C5 are still my travel buddies and I have to say my Don’t Trip experiment is still my favorite setup for pumptracks. Just the angle got a bit lower. While approaching the blue line I went back to 60 degree at the front truck.

Things Ahead

That is my anniversary post for today. I am still fascinated by the hobby and I am really curious how it will evolve further. I am about to move to another area of the country soon. Pretty far north, more details soon. This change will for sure give me new impulses for my journey, let’s see whats next.

Enjoy the ride and keep on rollin’!
